Replacing external cladding involves more than choosing a new finish. Before requesting a recladding quote, gather information about the existing facade, the reason for replacement and the people responsible for approving the work.
Explain why you are considering recladding
Tell the contractor whether your project concerns ageing finishes, visible damage, a planned renovation or a formal building assessment. Share any reports, drawings or notices already supplied by your building consultant, surveyor or owners corporation. A photograph alone does not establish the safety or suitability of a wall system.
Confirm the assessment and approval pathway

The guidance explains the role of building approval when selecting replacement products. Discuss the requirements for your building with the relevant building surveyor before agreeing on a system or starting work.
For an apartment or shared building, establish who is authorised to commission the work. Coordinate access, resident communication and project decisions with the owners corporation or building manager.
Ask for a clearly defined scope
- Identify the elevations and areas proposed for replacement.
- Confirm who handles removal, disposal and access equipment.
- Discuss how concealed conditions found during removal will be assessed.
- Record the specified replacement system and required documentation.
- Clarify responsibility for adjoining windows, flashings and other trades.
- Agree how changes to scope and timing will be communicated.
